FHIAP is funded with a combination of state and federal funds. On November 1, 2007, the federal government changed how much federal money was available to fund FHIAP adults. This caused FHIAP's state General Fund budget to be about $5.6 million short of the money it needs to pay for everyone's subsidy.
State policy makers worked together to make sure that everyone losing a FHIAP subsidy could transfer to OHP Standard. About 4,300 adults with individual market insurance (they don't get coverage through their work) who make less than 85% of the Federal Poverty Level will have an opportunity to switch health insurance coverage over to OHP Standard on May 31.
These people will begin receiving an information packet the week of March 31 explaining their options. Over the next month, FHIAP will also be contacting them by phone.
It's important to remember that people in the group market (who get insurance through an employer) and children ARE NOT losing their FHIAP subsidies.
